ABOUT FRAN
I’m a fat & queer yoga teacher with a "real job" in HR. I'm passionate about social justice, and my yoga and Human Resources practices have been centered in creating space for underserved communities and supporting those that don’t have the opportunity to advocate for themselves.
I believe that we can make Human Resources more “human.” I’ve noticed a change in workplace expectations since 2020 and there has been an overall loss of connection and support for employee growth.
I’ve learned across my career in HR that many small businesses and start-ups have been working without HR and administrative support from their inception, causing workflow issues no matter the industry.
You might be wondering…
How do yoga and Human Resources connect?
Though it’s not the most natural comparison, both HR and yoga philosophy aim to enhance well-being, foster a positive environment, and promote personal and professional development. They both have also changed my life and been a part of who I am for the past 7+ years.
Yoga is inherently holistic, addressing the well-being of the whole person—body, mind, and spirit. It encourages balance in all aspects of life. I think that modern HR practices should increasingly adopt a holistic approach to employee well-being, recognizing the interconnectedness of physical, mental, and emotional health.
HR often emphasizes teamwork and collaboration to create a positive workplace culture. In yoga, there's a sense of unity and interconnectedness. Practices often involve group activities that foster a sense of community and cooperation.
Inclusive HR practices aim to create diverse and welcoming workplaces that value individuals from various backgrounds. Yoga promotes inclusivity and unity, recognizing the diversity of individuals on their unique paths.
Continuous learning is a common HR principle, fostering a culture of ongoing skill development and adaptation. Yoga is a lifelong journey of learning and self-discovery. Practitioners are encouraged to remain open to new experiences and insights.
